Author Spotlight: Charlie Donlea
I'm a huge thriller fan, and I'm always on the look out for authors that consistently deliver those truly unputdownable reads that keep you up all night long. I've now read everything by Charlie Donlea, and boy, he delivers!
Charlie Donlea is a Chicago based author, with four books out, and another on the way this year (hurrah!). All of his novels, thus far, are stand alones and involve strong female leads. Not your average detectives either, so far the stories have been told from the perspective of an investigative journalist, a documentary film maker, a forensic pathologist and a forensic reconstructionist! His women characters are fully formed, strong and flawed. A magic combination that keeps us readers caring for them and completely engaged in the storytelling.
On top of that, Donlea's books are pacy. I'm talking a MASTER of suspense. So many twists and turns, and I was genuinely surprised with the plot twists at some point in every one of his books. And the endings... Often with thrillers these days I'm left with the "that was it?!" feeling. Well not this guy!
All his books are crime investigations, and a couple are quite graphic. So if you're only into psychological / domestic thrillers, this may not quite be your thing.
